The Museu del Modernisme de Barcelona has an exhibition area of approximately 1,000 square metres. On the ground floor, visitors can see furnishings such as cupboards, wardrobes, dining tables, crucifixes and office furniture from the Modernist period. Furniture by the designer and architect Antonio Gaudi is also exhibited here. He is one of the most important representatives of Modernism, which is why a section of the museum has been specially dedicated to the artist. Here you can see works that the master designed especially for the decoration of the Casa Calvet, the Casa Batllo and the Casa Mila.
The basement of the Museu del Modernisme de Barcelona houses the collection of paintings and sculptures. Works by the most important painters of the period are exhibited here, including Ramon Casis, Santiago Rusinol and Joaquim Mir i Trinxet, for example. The museum collection is made up of over 350 works by a total of 42 artists. They show the most diverse disciplines of Modernism: sculpture, painting, the decorative arts and furniture.
The Museu del Modernisme de Barcelona gives a good impression of the everyday objects with which the bourgeoisie surrounded itself at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum also shows how the works of modernist artists and designers differed.
