Built after plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkels from 1823-1830, the Old Museum is considered one of the most important works of the Neoclassical style. Even the building itself attracts attention due to its structured form and precise inner structures. During the design of this museum, Schinkel took Humboldt’s idea into consideration that the museum should be opened to the public as an educational institution. In line with this idea, the appearance of the museum was made to amaze visitors. The Old Museum focuses mainly on Greek treasures. And finally, the Old Museum houses an Antique Collection, which was previously supposed to display Berlin’s collection of fine arts. Between 1943 and 1945, the Old Museum unluckily had a fire and was (along with all of its historical treasures) severely damaged. For this reason, reconstruction of the museum took place until 1966. And since 1998, Greek treasures could be viewed again on the ground floor of the Old Museum.
