The fortress Al Fahidi-Fort was built in 1787 and served to protect the population from other tribes at that time. Unlike today, locals relied on trade and pearl fishing. The fortress was built, as usual at that time, from cemented shells and corals. Today, the Dubai Museum is located in the buildings. By displaying three-dimensional life-size charts, visitors will be introduced to the lives of the locals. Take the opportunity to discover a Bedouin tent, take a look at a traditional souq (market) and get on a dhow (traditional boat). In the courtyard of the fortress you will also have the opportunity to visit a traditional summerhouse, an arish made of palm fronds. The wind tower construction originally served as a natural air conditioning system.
