Cattedrale dell’Immagine –Digital Art and Immersive Exhibitions

Since 2015, the Cattedrale dell'Immagine has found its home in the historic church of Santo Stefano al Ponte, an architectural gem in the heart of Florence. The long-disused building has been transformed into a vibrant place where art, culture and tradition can be experienced in a fascinating new way. The Cattedrale dell'Immagine offers visitors a completely new way to experience art. Here, famous works of art are brought to life using the latest technology. Large-scale projections, captivating sound effects and interactive elements create an immersive environment that literally allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of art.

From 15 May 2026, the historic Cattedrale dell’Immagine di Firenze will host INFERNO - Esperienza Immersiva nella Divina Commedia di Dante (Immersive Experience inside Dante’s Divine Comedy), a spectacular immersive exhibition dedicated to the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri.

An experience that takes visitors on a journey into the legendary underworld conceived by Dante, combining digital art, immersive storytelling and cutting-edge visual technology. Through striking projections, spectacular settings and interactive installations, the audience will follow Dante and Virgil through the circles of Hell on a thrilling, multisensory journey.

Set inside the evocative Cattedrale dell’Immagine, just a stone’s throw from Ponte Vecchio, the exhibition transforms one of Florence’s historic buildings into a gateway between literature and digital imagination.

INFERNO is a co-production by Crossmedia Group and Outdoor Factory, with artistic curation by Sinan Turaman, managing partner and head of Art & Design at Outdoor Factory, and with scientific curation by Luca Azzetta, professor at the Dipartimento di Lettere e Filosofia of the Università di Firenze, ensuring the philological rigour and cultural depth of the entire project. The exhibition is the result of years of creative and productive development, involving an international multidisciplinary team of over 100 professionals who have collaborated to transform Dante’s vision into a contemporary experiential environment.

To mark this new exhibition, the Cattedrale dell’Immagine has undergone a major restyling, with the creation of a new entrance and the opening to the public, for the very first time, of the Choir, which will host an exclusive VR experience that will have visitors embark on a journey through Dante’s eyes that starts in 13^th-century Florence and descends in the Inferno. For the first time, visitors will be able to share the same virtual environment and live this experience with their friends. The VR experience is available exclusively as part of the VIP ticket.

To enhance the exhibition, visitors will also find a Dark Forest, the mesmerising Mirror Room and the Crypt, where they will discover a space to explore some of the evolutions of the depictions of Dante’s Inferno throughout the centuries.

The INFERNO journey begins in Florence, the birthplace of Dante Alighieri, but the exhibition is designed to tour the world. After the Tuscan capital, it will travel to Europe, Asia and the Far East. INFERNO is not just a cultural event for Florence, but a landmark immersive experience that brings together heritage, art and innovation on a global stage.

INFERNO will be open every day from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Cattedrale dell’Immagine, just a few metres from the Ponte Vecchio, in the heart of the city where Dante Alighieri was born.
