The Museum begins along the staircase that leads to the first floor, with a tribute to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, recalling the historic productions of William Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida – Franco Zeffirelli’s debut in scenography for the director Luchino Visconti (1949) – and, in the entrance corridor of the Museum, focusing on Euridice, set to music in the 1600s by Jacopo Peri (1960), both performed in the Boboli Gardens.

The Franco Zeffirelli International Centre for the Performing Arts, supported by the Maestro himself, brings together and makes available to his city and the world the entire artistic and cultural patrimony of his almost 70-year career.
An extraordinary patrimony – deemed “of particular historical interest” by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities – that includes all his documents, from drawings to studies for theatrical and cinematic set designs, from director’s notes to scripts, from set photos to a substantial correspondence and press releases, to testaments of his work in the world of international theatre and cinema, from the post-war period to today.

Through the use of the Archive, Library and Museum, The Franco Zeffirelli International Centre for the Performing Arts, located in the historic San Firenze complex, offers exhibition and educational activities, promoting culture associated with the art of show business and educating students in the disciplines of theatre, opera and cinema, in Florence, Italy, a cradle of culture for centuries. The Centre vaunts a hall for concerts and film projections, classrooms and workshop spaces.
