The museum is located on the second floor of the Palazzo Spini Feroni and is dedicated to the well-known shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo. In 1995 the family Ferragamo decided to open the museum to public viewing, in order share the designers talent and creations. More than 10,000 shoe models are displayed alongside wooden replicas of feet of famous personalities, designs and photographies among others. Salvatore Ferragamo is one of the leading designers of his time and not only famous in Italy. In 1914 he left Italy to move to Boston in America. Starting there he ended up in Hollywood a few years later. Until his return to Italy in 1927 he was known as the shoemaker for celebrities, because his made to measure shoes were even desired by well-known personalities of the movie industry.
