You can use Hamburg's public transport free of charge with the Hamburg City Pass with public transport. Take the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, bus, express bus and harbour ferries, even directly to and from the airport. With your Hamburg City Pass with public transport, you have free travel in the entire A and B areas of the Hamburg city area. You don't have to buy another ticket, just get on and go.
The HVV was founded on 29.11.1965 and includes the Hamburger elevated railway, the Hamburger rapid transit service, the transport companies in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein as well as the HADAG. 740 high-speed, regional, bus and ferry lines take you everywhere easily.
Your ticket is valid on all HVV lines, regardless of whether you are travelling by bus, train or ferry. HVV tickets do not have to be validated. Single, day and group tickets are available from the bus or ticket machines.
With the Hamburg City Pass, your local transport ticket in the AB area is already included, including express buses. You travel free of charge around the clock!
The blue oval circle in the network map defines the fare zone boundary of the Hamburg AB area and comprises a total of 6 rings. In this area you will find all the museums and sights that are included in your Hamburg City Pass, so you don't have to pay a surcharge.
If you are planning a trip outside the AB area, please buy a supplementary ticket. A single ticket for 1-2 rings costs 3,60€. You can find more information directly at the HVV or from a staff member on site.
Day tickets are valid for one person aged 15 and over and 3 additional children (6-14 years).
Infants up to and including 5 years of age travel free of charge. Children between 6 and 14 years pay the reduced children's price. A day ticket from 9 a.m. (AB area) for one child costs €2.50.
A regular day ticket from 9 a.m. for the AB area costs €7.10, full-day tickets cost €8.40 for people aged 15 and over.
If you book your Hamburg City Pass with local transport, you will automatically receive a day ticket for each day of your booking. This saves you time and money.
In Hamburg, all underground and suburban trains as well as most buses in the AB area run every 5-10 minutes on weekdays until around 11 p.m. Regular services are discontinued at around 0:30 a.m. Night buses then run in the city.
On weekend nights from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday, as well as before public holidays, the underground and suburban trains as well as the city buses run continuously around the clock (every 20 minutes).
Free travel on public transport to Hamburg's attractions
All sights included in the Hamburg City Pass are easily accessible by public transport. The Hamburg City Pass with local transport is ideal for all visitors who want to reach their next destination as quickly and easily as possible. Hamburg's S-Bahns, U-Bahns, buses, express buses and the harbour ferries in the AB area can be used without limit.
Enjoy the view from "above", because most of Hamburg's underground trains do not run underground, but mostly on stilts. During the ride you will be rewarded with great views.

S1 - Everything is perfectly signposted at the airport. Go to the S-Bahn station in Terminal 1 or 2. Get on any S-Bahn at Hamburg Airport and travel to the city centre in a relaxed, safe and comfortable way.
The S1 takes you all the way to Hamburg's city centre, past ten stops. You can get off and change trains anywhere. Between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., the S1 runs every ten minutes, so you don't have to wait long for a connection.
If you are coming from the city centre and going to the airport, please make sure you are seated in one of the front compartments at Ohlsdorf station (the last station before the airport). The rear carriages are uncoupled and travel in a different direction.

There is a strict ban on alcohol and smoking in all rapid transit and underground trains, as well as in buses and train stations in Hamburg. It is not permitted to carry open alcoholic beverages in the transport vehicles, nor is the consumption of alcoholic beverages during the journey or on the platforms.
You are allowed to take your dog with you in the Hamburg public transport system for free. However, they must always be kept on a leash. Dogs that are classified as dangerous according to the Hamburg Dog Law may not be taken along in the HVV. Bicycles can be taken free of charge as long as space is available. However, prams and wheelchairs always have priority. If buses or trains are full, the bike may have to stay outside.
The underground line U3: A must-do for your stay in Hamburg
Get on the yellow U3 - the line is called the most beautiful underground line in the world. The U3 is a special underground in Hamburg, only 9 out of 25 stations are underground, the rest consists of an elevated track.
In 1912, the U3 was Hamburg's very first underground line and is now considered a favourite line for many tourists. Even long-established Hamburg residents enjoy the view of Hamburg harbour from the Landungsbrücken underground station. Actually, only the Michel offers a more beautiful view over the harbour.
From the U3, you can even see the Speicherstadt and the Elbphilharmonie. Enjoy the beautiful moment when the U3 leaves the tunnel from St. Pauli to Landungsbrücken. The Borgweg stop near the Stadtpark invites you to enjoy a moment of tranquillity. Alternatively, you can rent a canoe here and sail along one of Hamburg's many waterways.
If you're in the mood for more action, get out in the St. Pauli entertainment district and spend your evening on the Reeperbahn! Follow in the footsteps of the famous Olivia Jones on a guided Kieztour. Or take a direct trip to the bar. Udo Lindenberg's Panik City and the Panoptikum are also worth a visit.
Very special music- and lightshow on the most beautiful underground station Hamburg has to offer
Take the U4 to the "HafenCity Universität" stop and discover a special highlight of the city. Every weekend and on public holidays, a very special composition of light and music awaits you every hour on the hour between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The coloured light comes from 12 illuminated containers hanging from the ceiling, as large as standard containers in the neighbouring harbour. The colours adapt to the time of day, season or weather. They harmonise to the rhythm of classical music by Bach, Verdi and co. The show can be watched very well from a kind of stage in the station.
Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the nearby International Maritime Museum, about 5 minutes' walk from the HafenCity University stop.
