The Bavarian National Museum is one of the largest museums in Germany. The museum, located near the English Garden, presents outstanding art from late antiquity to Art Nouveau and tells the story of European cultural history in Bavaria in a unique way.
The historical core of the collections is based on the art collection of the Wittelsbach family, which reflects the Europe-wide connections of this Bavarian ruling dynasty. The collections include masterpieces of European art from the Middle Ages to Art Nouveau, including sculptures, paintings, goldsmithing and ivory carving. In addition to porcelain, textiles, furniture, weapons and musical instruments, they also include spectacular examples of everyday culture.
The nativity scene collection is world-famous, with figures dating from the 17th to 20th century. Here you will find a unique collection of European art and cultural history in the centre of the continent.
