The Münchner Kammerspiele are one of the most important theatres in the German-speaking world and were voted Theatre of the Year 2019 by the annual critics' survey of the specialist magazine "Theater heute". Since its beginnings, the theatre has been characterised by a strong ensemble that seeks to engage with the present. The Münchner Kammerspiele see themselves as an aesthetically innovative, contemporary and cosmopolitan municipal theatre with a socio-political orientation.
Varies according to performance. Performances usually take place in the evening.

With the start of the season 2015/2016, Matthias Lilienthal took over the management of the Münchner Kammerspiele. A "new type of municipal theatre" are the key words for the experimental set-up, which started in autumn 2015 on Maximilianstrasse. Important parameters are the strong ensemble with partly familiar, partly new faces as well as the promotion of internationalisation with directors such as Philippe Quesne, Toshiki Okada, Amir Reza Koohestani, Yael Ronen, David Marton and, in the season 2017/18, Trajal Harrell.
A wide variety of productions and events can be experienced on the three stages of Chamber 1, Chamber 2 and Chamber 3.
