Already in his opening speech in 1853, King Ludwig I dedicated the Neue Pinakothek to the "Paintings from this and from future centuries". Thus he founded the first public museum in Europe dedicated exclusively to contemporary art.
Look at Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers or water lilies by Claude Monet next to works by other pioneers of modernism such as Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and Auguste Rodin.
After being destroyed in World War II, architect Alexander von Branca created the current building, which opened its doors in 1981. It is considered one of the best post-war museum buildings in Germany.
The Hunsinger restaurant, which is integrated into the museum, provides you with light meals or coffee and cake during the day and serves first-class fish in the evening.
