Since the 14th century, the fortified castle has been the home of a large number of important people, who transformed the castle into a charming residence and it was acquired by Louis XVI. The royal estate is now presidential property and open to the public. From time to time it is used to receive heads of state in France.
It contains some admirable examples of interior decoration, such as the marble chamber, the Rocco furnishings in the Marie - Antoinette room or Napoleon's room in neo-Pompeian style. It is surrounded by a garden, canals and 5 islands.
