What awaits you on site

In the crypt, you will find artefacts discovered during excavations between 1965 and 1970 as well as a unique panorama of the development of the Ile de la Cité, the historic heart of Paris.

The people of Paris and the buildings are not the only things that have changed over the years. The ground level of Paris has also changed drastically. Both the banks of the Seine and the street level have shifted over the last hundred years. Preserved artefacts from the Paris of yesteryear, which can be found in the Crypte archéologique de l'Ile de la Cité, show how different Paris was compared to the French capital we all know today. Interesting excavations have unearthed artefacts from Roman times and also some from the 18th century. For children, there are 3D animations that present information about the development of Paris in a child-friendly, vivid and interesting way. Discover the remains of the Paris of yesteryear and dive (literally!) into the past. The museum offers a unique overview of the architectural and urban development of Paris right in the historic heart of the city - the Ille de la Cité.
