The people of Paris and its buildings are not the only things that have changed over the years. The ground level of Paris also changed drastically—the ground level that you see today wasn’t always that way. Both the waterfront of the Seine and also the street level have been displaced over the past hundreds of years, and are now unique establishments in Paris. Preserved items from the Paris of former times that are found in the “Crypte archéologique du Parvis Notre-Dame” show this change of how different Paris was compared to the modern-day capital of France that we all know today. Artifacts of the city also call the crypt their home. Interesting excavations have discovered artifacts from the Roman times and also some from up to the 18th century. For children, 3D animations that present information about the development of Paris in a kid-friend, vividly clear, and interesting way are provided. Learn about the remains of the Paris of former times and (literally!) dive into the past. The museum offers a unique overview of the architectural and urban development of Paris right in the historical heart of city—Ille de la Cité.
