Arch of Hadrian

The city council of Athens had Hadrian's Gate built in honour of Emperor Hadrian after he had the city considerably enlarged and new quarters built.

You can admire the ancient monument in the heart of Athens. It once marked the border between the "old" Greek Athens and the new Roman neighbourhood that was created by Emperor Hadrian as part of the city's expansion. Hadrian's Gate is made of Pentelic marble and is still well preserved today. If you are travelling around the city, take a look at this famous and much-photographed Athenian building.
