Description of the Walking Tours

From April 15th or 1st of May (depending on the weather conditions) to October 31st, you have the opportunity to choose from 2 different walking tours’.

1. The Acropolis Walking Tour: It starts daily at 11:15am. The starting point is the Acropolis & Parthenon bus stop of Athens Open Tour, at the end of Rovertou Galli street on the foothill of the Acropolis. The tour guide will be waiting for you holding a sign that says ‘Walking Tour-Athens Open Tour’. The route will take you through the green park of Thisseion whereas on one side you can admire the Areios Pagos hill and the Acropolis and on the other the Ancient Agora. Next stop is the always busy Monastiraki square and after this you will be guided through the labyrinthine streets of Plaka arrayed with neoclassical buildings, to Syntagma Square where this tour ends.

2. The National Gardens & Parliament Walking Tour: It starts daily at 12:30pm. The starting point is the Parliament & National Gardens bus stop of Athens Open Tour, directly in front of the Greek Parliament building. The tour guide will be waiting for you holding a sign that says ‘Walking Tour-Athens Open Tour’. After learning about the building’s interesting history you will enter the gardens. The gardens are a public park open daily from sunrise to sunset. They are like a small tropical paradise amidst the city centre. This tour ends at the Panathenaic Stadium, site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

The tours offer audio guide commentary in different languages, including Greek, English, German, Spanish, French and they are available only from April 15th/May 1st (depending on weather conditions) and October 31st.

Important to keep in mind: The tours last approximately 50-60 minutes. Even though the staff tries to keep the respective starting/ending times the itineraries are also subject to external circumstances, such as excess traffic, unexpected incidents etc.
