The Chiesa di San Giacomo di Rialto is considered as the oldest church in Venice. This church is located on the Rialto market place, which was once the most important trading area in Venice. Although there was a fire in 1514 that burned the entire Rialto district to the ground, the church survived unharmed. In the 16th century, the floors of the church were raised in order to discourage flooding. Currently, the church has a prominent clock from the 14th century on the exterior and also includes a museum for musical instruments.
