The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is the most important museum in Italy for European and American art of the 20th century created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim (1898-1979). She assembled the core of her collection between 1938 and 1947 with the advice of artists and critics. It is located in Peggy Guggenheim's former home, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, on the Grand Canal in Venice. The museum was inaugurated in 1980 and presents Peggy Guggenheim's personal collection of 20th century art, including masterpieces by Picasso, Magritte, Dalí, Pollock, Calder, Kandinsky and many others. The museum hosts also masterpieces from the Schulhof Collection, the Nasher Sculpture Garden, as well as temporary exhibitions.
