Is the use of my City Pass linked to my visit to the Colosseum?

No, not at all! You can use your Rome City Pass independently of the Colosseum and start with any attraction you like. The use of the City Pass does include a visit to the Colosseum, but this can take place at any time during the validity period of your pass - you don't have to start with it.

Do I need to book for the attractions?

For some visits or tours you do need to make a reservation. You will receive all the important information, contacts and addresses together with your digital City Pass by email. These special booking instructions apply to Rome: Colosseum (with Roman Forum and Palatine Hill): When booking the City Pass, you specify a day and time for your visit to the Colosseum - we will then make the reservation for you, you don't need to do anything else. Vatican Museums: When booking the City Pass, you specify a day and time for your visit to the Vatican Museums - we will make the reservation for you, you don't have to do anything else. Pantheon and Castel Sant'Angelo : A time slot reservation is possible and recommended, you will receive the booking information with your City Pass. City tour and bike tour: You have to book these tours yourself in advance - you will find all the necessary information in your digital City Pass.

How flexible am I when using the pass?

Very flexible! With the exception of the fixed time slots for visiting the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums, you can visit all other attractions in any order and during the respective opening hours. You set your own pace. However, for popular attractions such as Castel Sant'Angelo and the Pantheon, we recommend that you also make a time slot reservation to be sure of admission and avoid waiting times.

How does the City Pass work on site?

Simply show your City Pass at the respective attraction. In most cases, this will give you direct admission, sometimes you will be issued a free ticket. At partner shops, you present the pass before your purchase to receive your discount. For tours, you give your City Pass code to the provider to receive your discount.

Do I need to collect any tickets, and where?

For most sights, you just show the QR code on your phone at the entrance. For four of them, you pick up your ticket at a nearby pick-up point first: Pantheon Castel Sant'Angelo St. Peter's Basilica Public transport (optional upgrade) Each pick-up point is right next to the attraction, so it's only a few minutes' walk. You'll find the exact location, opening hours and a map link on each attraction page and your digital pass. Bring your City Pass QR code, and plan a little extra time for the pick-up when you visit.

How long is the Rome City Pass valid?

You can choose a Rome City Pass valid for 1 to 7 days. The validity period begins on the day you specified as the first day of use when booking. You can visit each attraction once. It is not possible to extend or pause the pass. Therefore, choose the duration that best fits your travel plans.

How do I activate my Rome City Pass after ordering?

You don’t need to activate anything. Your pass starts automatically on the day you specified when booking. You’ll receive it via email immediately after payment. For attractions with time slots, such as the Vatican Museums or the Colosseum, you should reserve your visit well in advance. If you don’t receive an email, please check your spam folder or contact our customer service.

How do I get the Rome City Pass as a digital ticket on my smartphone?

Book your pass at turbopass.com . You’ll usually receive an email with a link within a few minutes. Open the link in your browser. No app is required. Show the QR code at the entrances. Take a screenshot of the QR codes in advance in case you don’t have an internet connection while you’re out and about. The pass is only available in digital format.

Are there special prices and rules for children and young people?

Yes, there are different price categories of the Rome City Pass because the tickets for children and young people are cheaper. Special rules apply to visits to the Colosseum. Children and young people under the age of 18 do not pay admission to the Colosseum, but still need a free ticket. With your Rome City Pass, you will also automatically receive these free tickets for your child/children. We will ask for the full name and age of the child/children when you book. Important information for visiting the Colosseum with children: The tickets for the Colosseum are personalised - the identity of all ticket holders is checked. How does admission for children at the Colosseum work?

Children under the age of 18 do not pay admission to the Colosseum, but still need a free ticket, which we will send you with your Rome City Pass. The children's tickets are not bound to the time stated on the ticket - a child can enter the Colosseum at any time on the date stated. You should bring proof of age (passport or ID) with you.

How does admission for children at the Colosseum work?

Definitely! Which attractions should I visit first?

The hop-on hop-off tour is the perfect way to get an overview of the city. This allows you to make specific plans as to which attractions you would like to visit on the following days. Pro tip: We actually recommend taking one of the guided tours or the multimedia video Ancient Rome before visiting the Colosseum. This will give you a much better idea of ancient Rome in its original location if you already have some background knowledge - the Colosseum is then twice as impressive. It is also very helpful to visit the other ancient archaeological sites in Rome beforehand - such as the Vicus Caprarius archaeological site, the Case Romane del Celio or the Stadio Di Domiziano. This gives the Colosseum the feel of a truly ancient city and gives you an authentic feel for life in Rome in earlier times. These underground treasures show you how many layers of history characterise Rome and make your visit to the Colosseum an even more intense experience.

Is there a recommended route or a daily schedule?

Again, the "right" route depends very much on your preferences. In general, we recommend: Day 1 for the hop-on hop-off tour and an orientation of the city. Day 2 with the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - a wonderful walk through ancient Rome. Day 3 for the Vatican Museums and St Peter's Basilica. Leave time for breaks in the many cosy cafés between visits - Rome is perfect for a stroll!

How do I get to the attractions?

Most attractions in Rome are fairly central and can be easily reached on foot. For longer distances, it's best to use the metro or buses - luckily you can book a public transport ticket with your City Pass. Taxis are also an option, but walking is often faster, especially in the city centre. The hop-on hop-off buses also take you comfortably to the most important points and you can hop on and off as often as you like.

Which attractions are particularly suitable for families with children?

The wax museum and the GAMM Game Museum are particularly fun for children. The Hop-On Hop-Off tour is great because children can discover the city from the bus. The multimedia video Ancient Rome offers an exciting introduction to Roman history. The Catacombs of St Callistus are a real adventure for older children. And in the parks surrounding the attractions, the kids can let off steam in between.

What are the waiting times like in Rome?

Rome can get very crowded at peak times. Security checks are mandatory for everyone and there can be waiting times - even if you already have a ticket. The capacity of the Colosseum is limited to 3000 visitors, which can mean that you have to wait despite having a reservation. We recommend including the many other great museums and attractions in your travel plans, which are less crowded. For more relaxation and exciting discoveries off the beaten track and standard Insta spots.

How exactly does my Colosseum ticket work?

With your Colosseum ticket from the Rome City Pass you get: - 1x admission to the Colosseum at the booked time - 1x admission to the archaeological site of the Roman Forum-Palatine Hill and the Imperial Forums at the desired time, within 24 hours before or after the booked time in the Colosseum Important notes : Please check the booked time for your visit to the Colosseum on your ticket The tickets for the Colosseum are personalised - the identity of the ticket holder is checked. When can I make a reservation for the Colosseum?

You book your visit to the Colosseum when you buy your City Pass - just give us your preferred date and we'll do the rest for you. Reservations can be made around six weeks before the desired date, and your Colosseum tickets will then be displayed in the digital pass at least one to two weeks before your chosen visit date.

Are audio guides or guided tours included?

The audio commentary is included free of charge on the Hop-On Hop-Off tour. This varies for other attractions - some have free audio guides, others charge a small fee. In your City Pass documents, you will find all the details about which services are included where.

What happens if the Colosseum is closed due to overcrowding even though I have a reservation?

With your reservation, you have booked a guaranteed time slot for the Colosseum. Closures due to overcrowding or admission stops usually only affect visitors without a reservation. Your pre-booking should protect you from exactly this eventuality. However, if unforeseen problems do occur, please contact our customer service team directly - we will help you find a solution.

What is the difference between the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill?

The Colosseum is the famous ancient amphitheatre, the Roman Forum - today a large area with ruins of Roman houses in the middle of the city - was the centre of political, economic and judicial life in ancient Rome, and the Palatine Hill is the hill on which the emperors had their palaces. All three attractions complement each other perfectly and are accessible with a single ticket: in the Colosseum you can experience the impressive dimensions of the ancient arena, in the Roman Forum you can walk in the footsteps of Roman history, and on the Palatine Hill you can enjoy fantastic views over the city. Your ticket is valid for all three areas and can be used on one or two consecutive days.

When can I visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill?

You can visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill on the same day (e.g. before the Colosseum) or the day after your visit to the Colosseum, regardless of the reserved Colosseum time.

Do I have to buy tickets for the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums with my Rome City Pass? Or can I skip these tickets?

If there are no more tickets available for your preferred date or you would like to skip the visit for other reasons, you can simply cancel these tickets and save even more money. Because with the Rome City Pass, you don't pay for these attractions if you don't book tickets for them.

What do I need to consider regarding the dress code at the Vatican?

Please observe the dress code for visiting the Vatican and wear clothing that covers your knees and shoulders, otherwise you may be refused entry. Shorts, miniskirts and off-the-shoulder tops are not permitted.

What should I pay particular attention to at the Vatican?

Please note that you must be prepared for delays at the security checks at the Vatican - these cannot be avoided even with priority entry. You may be approached by "helpful" salespeople in front of the Vatican who want to sell you overpriced tickets. Don't go for it - with your City Pass you already have reserved access!

Do I need to book for the Pantheon?

Since 2023, an admission ticket is required for the Pantheon. A time slot reservation is possible and recommended to avoid waiting times. You will receive the booking information with your City Pass.

How does the public transport ticket work?

If you have added public transport to your City Pass, you will receive all the information you need to use it with your digital pass by email. Important: Pick up your ticket at one of the pick-up points before your first journey. The first time you use your ticket, it must be validated (stamped) at one of the ticket validators at the station entrances or on the bus. Your chosen period of validity starts from this moment. How does the optional airport transfer work?

If you have booked the airport transfer, you will receive all the details for using it with your digital City Pass. How do the hop-on hop-off buses work?

Your Rome City Pass includes all routes through Rome for 48 hours with free audio commentary in many languages. You can change buses as often as you like and hop on and off at all stops. Simply show your City Pass to a member of staff at the bus company and you will receive your ticket.

What are the underground sights in Rome?
