70 years ago, in the spring and summer of 1945, when the Allied armies advanced through the occupied areas of the Nazi to end the regime of the Third Reich, the world heard of the liberation of dozen concentration camps for the first time.

Allied soldiers liberated holocaust survivors from camp to camp throughout exhausted Europe. The sick, hungry and living appeared to tell the horror of a systematized murder, torture, degradation and exploitation to a shocked world. This had been conceived and set in motion 12 years earlier in a small town about 18 km north of Munich.

Of the many picturesque towns and villages that lie on the outskirts of Munich, one of the most beautiful is the medieval town of Dachau. Today, just outside of the city centre, you still find lasting evidence of evil, created in the midst of rustic charm, former concentration camp and now turned into a international memorial site.

The memorial site of today united the historical authenticity of the original environment and its many preserved building which serves as a modern exhibition centre. It is a place of remembrance, pilgrimage and education. It can be a challenging, yet moving and unforgettable experience.

The tour guides take you on the journey and tell you about the history and characteristics of the concentration camp, the victims and the servants in a sensible, respectful and dignifying manner.
