Edward Weston. The Matter of Forms
The work of Edward Weston (Illinois, 1886 – California, 1958) is closely linked to the landscape and cultural history of the United States and offers a unique perspective on the development of photography as an art form and its important role in modern visual art.
This comprehensive anthography covers all phases of his photographic career, from his initial interest in pictorialism to his establishment as one of the central figures in the affirmation of the poetic and speculative value of direct photography.
As a co-founder of the f/64 group, his images are particularly interesting for understanding the new aesthetic and American lifestyle that emerged in the United States during the interwar period. The exhibition is organised with the support of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Joan Andreu Puig Farran: The Turbulent Decade (1929-1939)
Joan Andreu Puig Farran (Lleida, 1904 – Barcelona, 1982) worked as a photojournalist for daily newspapers from 1929 onwards and worked for newspapers such as La humanitat, Esplai, El Matí, L'Opinió and La Vanguardia during the Republic. When the war broke out, he went to the front lines in Aragón and Mallorca. In 1939, he went into exile in France, from where he returned to Barcelona in 1945.
Unable to resume his work as a photojournalist, he devoted himself to industrial and tourism photography and teamed up with his friend Antoni Campañà, with whom he founded the postcard publishing company CYP. Puig Farran never exhibited his photographs. This exhibition showcases his work during a period of intense social and political unrest through a large number of original prints from the archives of La Vanguardia.
