Castelldefels Castle is the landmark of the town of the same name. It was previously closed to the public and is now being opened to the public for the first time. You can see the castle itself as well as Piratia, an interactive, educational exhibition about piracy in the region.

Built in the tenth century, it was established on Iberian and Roman ruins and for centuries was used to control the territory, as a defensive fortification against Arab invaders and to defend it against pirate attacks.

Where does the name come from?

The name Castelldefels is derived from Castrum Felix, in the Romanised form "Castello de Feles".

Where is Castelldefels located?

The coastal town is located around 20 kilometres southwest of Barcelona on the Costa del Garraf and is part of the Barcelona metropolitan region.

What is there to see?

The audio-guided tour of the castle allows you to experience the different ages from its construction to the high society parties held by Manuel Girona. You will learn about the history of Mediterranean pirates through Piratia, an interactive and immersive experience where piracy is narrated through audiovisual, scenographic, entertaining and interactive elements.

Opening hours

Summer opening hours (from April 1st on):
From Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 7pm.* 

Winter opening hours (from October 1st on):
Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 10am to 6pm.* 

*Last entrance to the castle one hour before closing time.

 

Reservation

Just show your Barcelona City Pass and get your tickets at the Castle's reception desk. It is not necessary to book your ticket in advance. 

Admission to the visit is included in the Barcelona City Pass.
