Castelldefels Castle is the landmark of the town of the same name. It was previously closed to the public and is now being opened to the public for the first time. You can see the castle itself as well as Piratia, an interactive, educational exhibition about piracy in the region.
Built in the tenth century, it was established on Iberian and Roman ruins and for centuries was used to control the territory, as a defensive fortification against Arab invaders and to defend it against pirate attacks.
The name Castelldefels is derived from Castrum Felix, in the Romanised form "Castello de Feles".
The coastal town is located around 20 kilometres southwest of Barcelona on the Costa del Garraf and is part of the Barcelona metropolitan region.
The audio-guided tour of the castle allows you to experience the different ages from its construction to the high society parties held by Manuel Girona. You will learn about the history of Mediterranean pirates through Piratia, an interactive and immersive experience where piracy is narrated through audiovisual, scenographic, entertaining and interactive elements.
