What awaits you on site

The Lyceum was originally a temple dedicated to Apollo Lyceus. It got famous because the ancient greek philosopher Aristotle used to teach while walking around the temple. In 335/4 he founded there his Peripatetic philosophical school. He taught there for 12 years, the most productive of his life. Before him other philosophers had also taught there, like Socrates, Plato and Isocrates.

The Lyceum was found in a small park behind the Greek parliament, in the very heart of the Greek capital. The Parliament, the National Gardens and the Temple of Olympian Zeus are located within a short walking distance. We recommend that you combine your visit to the Lyceum with an excursion to Kolonaki
