The Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore is a church that was built as a sign of gratitude to God for the end of the plague of 1577. It is for the same reason that the Redentore Festival exists, which takes place annually on the third Sunday of July. The church was built in the likeness of ancient Greek temples and is considered a masterwork of Renaissance architecture. In contrast to its ostentatious exterior, the interior of the chuch is very simple. The three chapels in the church are homes to paintings like the “Birth of Christ” by Francesco Bassano, “Baptism of Jesus” by Paolo Veranese, and the “Flagellation of Christ” by Tintoretto.
