Kunsthalle München presents Miguel Chevalier (*1959) his largest solo exhibition in Europe to date. Since the 1980s, the Paris-based artist has been working with computers as a creative medium, utilizing cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence.
The exhibition features around 120 works spanning all creative phases: from early digital experiments with binary systems and algorithms to current works exploring the relationship between nature and technology. Visitors can see sculptures created through 3D printing, machine-produced embroideries, videos, and four interactive installations where audiences can co-create algorithmically generated images through body movements.
A special highlight is the virtual garden "Pixel Flowers," where adults and children can create their own plants both online and on-site. These are displayed in a greenhouse within the exhibition space.Chevalier's work engages in dialogue with art history – from Duchamp and Tinguely to Monet and Fontana to Nam June Paik. Central to his practice is the physical experience in space and active audience participation in the creative process.
