Welcome to Castel Sant'Elmo, the historic fortress that sits proudly on the Vomero hill in Naples. This star-shaped castle from the 14th century is steeped in history and offers the best panoramic view of the city. This is one of the reasons why a visit to the castle should be at the top of your list of things to do in Naples.

Among the many treasures of Naples, the panoramic view from Castel Sant'Elmo is unrivalled. Overlooking the sprawling city, the Bay of Naples and even Mount Vesuvius in the distance, the castle offers a vantage point that enchants photographers, artists and visitors alike. On a clear day, the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida can be seen in the azure sea - an ideal place to reflect and marvel.

A visit to Castel Sant'Elmo is more than just a walk through a historic fortress; it is an experience that combines the heartbeat of ancient and modern Naples. Throughout its existence, Castel Sant'Elmo has played a central role in the city. It has been a silent witness to numerous sieges, revolts and changes that have characterised the city. From its use as a prison to its current role as a cultural centre, it reflects the resilience and dynamism of Naples.
