The Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich, earlier the State Museum of Ethnology, was founded in 1862 as the first ethnological museum in Germany. The collection of things of everyday life, ritual objects or works of art that have been preserved and continuously expanded here tell the visitors about the cultural wealth of humanity. They build bridges from the past into current affairs and open doors to other ways of life. The museum offers a unique access to the cultural wealth of people all over the world.
Based on the collections, we show similarities and differences between cultures from Africa, America, Asia, Australia, Oceania, the Orient and Europe. We invite children and adults to get to know the diversity of cultures and the people who shape them. We encourage you to get involved in a foreign way of thinking, to check your points of view and to take inspiration into your own life.
